West Ham United defender Craig Dawson could leave club in January

West Ham defender Craig Dawson could leave the club in the January transfer window, as per Ryan Taylor.

The Daily Express journalist has suggested that the centre-back, who was linked with a move away from the club in the summer, could still depart in the next transfer window.

However, the Hammers don’t have any interest in Dan-Axel Zagadou who is a free agent following his release from Borussia Dortmund.

Taylor wrote on Twitter: “West Ham currently have no interest in signing free agent Dan-Axel Zagadou following his release from Borussia Dortmund, despite suggestions they’re negotiating four-year contract with Frenchman. Irons expected to hold firm until January, when Craig Dawson could depart.”

Replacement

The Hammers spent big in the summer transfer window, and they focussed on adding depth in defence.

Issa Diop was allowed to leave and the Hammers could bring the likes of Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer to their ranks. David Moyes now has a strong defensive set-up especially with Kurt Zouma, Angelo Ogbonna and Dawson still around.

However, that’s only one side of the story.

Aguerd is out injured, and hopefully, he will return at some point after the World Cup break.

Ogbonna has recently returned to action after a long injury lay-off, and this is most likely his last season at the club.

West Ham

Dawson wants to stay close to his family, and he is keen to depart. A summer move failed as Moyes didn’t want to let him go, but that could change in January.

The club won’t stand in his way if he wants to leave due to personal reasons. He has been a wonderful player for the club, and Michah Richards praised him as “excellent” on Match of The Day (25 April) for his performance against Chelsea last season.

Dawson is yet to start a league game for the Hammers this season, and he is likely to leave in January.
