West Ham defender back in training and contention to face Spurs – report

West Ham United defender Issa Diop was one of those who has returned a positive COVID-19 test this season.

The Frenchman, alongside David Moyes, was withdrawn from the side to face Charlton in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season and hasn’t featured since the Arsenal clash.

The Hammers have struggled in recent weeks with injuries and positive tests, but that hasn’t affected their form in the Premier League.

Diop could ease those injury problems against Spurs next week though.

Football London have reported that the 23-year-old is back in training and also in contention to face Tottenham.

The French defender could be joined by Ryan Fredericks and Arthur Masuaku, with the defensive duo having both suffered from injuries in the past fortnight.

It is uncertain whether or not Diop will be thrown straight back into the side, although we find it highly unlikely.

Fabian Balbuena, Aaron Cresswell and Angelo Ogbonna have kept consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League with convincing wins against Wolves and Leicester.

We expect Moyes to stick with that back three, especially now that Masuaku is likely to be available to play the wing-back role.

Diop is good enough to jump into that back three, but we expect him to return to the bench against Spurs.
