West Ham United: Declan Rice makes ‘wonderful’ gesture for music legend Chesney Hawkes

West Ham United supporter Chesney Hawkes was left in awe of Declan Rice after what he did following England’s World Cup win against Wales.

The Rock and Roll legend performed at half-time and met with many of the Three Lions after the game but it was Irons skipper Ricer who he really wanted to bump into and he duly did.

Not only did Hawkes get a picture with the 23-year-old, he also got his match shirt signed for his youngest son Indiana, 17, with a personalised message written by Rice.

West Ham

“I’m a Hammers nut through and through so made a beeline for my hero Declan who gave me a wonderful cuddle,” Hawkes said to The Sun.

He can be seen wearing the shirt Rice gave to him in an image with Jack Grealish, also shared by The Sun, which says “Indi, top boy – Declan Rice,” on it.

Our captain

He may not be wearing the armband for the Three Lions but at West Ham, there is nobody who can rival his leadership and heart which is why David Moyes can’t drop him at all.

Gareth Southgate seems to have that same mentality with England because Rice has played every single game at the World Cup so far and looks to be keeping his place for the round of 16 against Senegal on Sunday (4 December).

West Ham

Not every professional football player would be willing to do that and none are obliged to be so generous so it is a great credit to not only Rice but everybody who has helped him over the years mature as a person.

West Ham, though, could do with his toughness to shine through on the field and guide them away from a potential relegation scrap and the captain’s armband brings out the best in him.

If Harry Kane ends up having to miss a game for any reason, it would not be out of the ordinary for Southgate to hand the captaincy to Rice for a game or two.
