West Ham United decide on Divin Mubama as Sheffield Wednesday transfer approach emerges
Divin Mubama will remain at West Ham beyond Deadline Day despite loan interest in the striker, according to the Daily Mail.
The English newspaper reported online (1 February) that Championship clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers, as well as Dutch side FC Twente Enschede, have all enquired about signing the 19-year-old on loan.
However, David Moyes is keen to keep the player around as cover despite Mubama’s desire to leave on loan.
Mubama’s contract at The London Stadium expires in the summer and West Ham will look to hold talks over his future this month.
Opportunity
While Mubama might be frustrated that he is not heading out on loan to gain some valuable first-team minutes elsewhere, he must quickly put that frustration behind him and see this as an opportunity.
If Moyes is keen on keeping the player around, it is clear he is highly valued within the squad and while he hasn’t been handed any real chances as of yet, that is not to say things can’t change between now and the end of the season.
With Michail Antonio injured and Said Benrahma potentially on his way out of the club, more opportunities could soon open up for the youngster, especially when the UEFA Europa League returns and the fixture schedule becomes more packed.
Mubama is a big talent, and Moyes must recognise this. While this decision suggests to the player he is important to the club, that suggestion must now be proved in the coming months, especially if they want to convince the forward to sign a new deal.
