West Ham United deal for Lucas Paqueta on rocks ‘as it stands’ – Toby Cudworth

West Ham united’s pursuit of Lyon midfielder is now on the rocks as the two clubs can not agree on a price for the Brazilian, according to Toby Cudworth.

The 90min journalist claims that after the second rejected bid worth £42million, the Irons have put the brakes on any further pursuit of the 24-year-old.

Cudworth took to Twitter to share the news but reiterated that things are only as it stands and that a revival of their attempts could easily occur although Lyon’s asking price would remain excessive.

“As has been the case with a lot of WHUFC deals this summer, the move for Lucas Paqueta has quickly hit the rocks,” he said.

“The deal is off, as it stands, with Lyon’s demands proving problematic. West Ham were willing to pay in excess of €50m for the 24-year-old Brazilian.

“The words to emphasise in the above are ‘as it stands’ – WHUFC could go back to Lyon offering more but the president’s demands appear to be excessive. West Ham have other targets and would be cautious of paying way over the odds.”

Typical

Hammers fans across the world need to hope that there is a turning point at Rush Green and the move is resurrected because Paqueta would be a game-changer for David Moyes and his West Ham side.

His creativity is what has been lacking in the attacking midfield position at the London Stadium and it could unlock the goal-scoring boots of Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen again.

The Irons are yet to find the net in the Premier League which is a major concern for Moyes and he won’t be happy if he doesn’t get another attacking addition to his squad before the transfer deadline of 1 September.

There is only just less than a week left to go before that day so there is time for West Ham to take a step back and reevaluate their stance on Paqueta and then go back in if they wish to.

They had better do so as well because he is the kind of player to take an entire team up a notch.
