West Ham United deal for John McGinn ‘difficult’ to pull off
West Ham United may have to pull out of their attempts to sign Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn with a move described as “difficult.”
According to the Daily Mail, David Moyes wanted to bring both the Scottish international and his Aston Villa teammate Ollie Watkins to the London Stadium.
That now looks unlikely to happen with this news but it isn’t all bad for Hammers fans as the Daily Mail says in the same report that the signing of Nayef Aguerd could be completed this week and that RB Salzburg striker Junior Adamu is a target too.

ExWHUEmployee also admitted on his latest West Ham Way podcast that Moyes is a big fan of McGinn and would like to sign him as the club’s marquee addition for the summer.
“Scottish international, Moyes really, really likes him, really likes him and wants him to be a marquee signing in midfield although there is a number of other clubs that are interested in signing him as well,” he said.
Smart
If we had gone ahead with pursuing a deal to sign the Scotsman, we would have only ended up paying through the nose for him and regretting it as soon as he penned his deal.
Aston Villa, much like Leeds United with Kalvin Phillips, will never allow a player to join divisional rivals without making them spend more than they need to for their services and it is always the smart choice to back out.

There are far more talented midfielders in European football who could come to the Irons for much cheaper than McGinn would cost so why the club aren’t focusing on those players is completely bewildering.
We are just wasting precious time and resources chasing deals that are never going to come to fruition in a million years and it’s getting tiresome.
The club’s owners, scouting and management staff all need to pull their heads in and refocus their efforts on deals that could actually happen rather than spending the majority of the window in cuckoo land.
In other West Ham news, the Irons now know the price they’d have to pay if they wanted to sign one of the Premier League’s breakthrough players this season.
