West Ham United deadline day move for Sander Berge fails for various reasons
West Ham United were interested in making a deadline-day move for Sheffield United maestro Sander Berge, according to TV2 Sport.
The report claims Newcastle United and Fulham also showed strong interest in the Norwegian midfielder but the Blades managed to keep their prized asset.
TV2 Sport reports that Berge’s agent, Morten Wivestad, was in London all week holding negotiations with the clubs over a potential January transfer for Berge.

“Talks about Berge’s future continued until the evening hours on Tuesday, shortly before the deadline for the international transfer window, but it has now been decided that the Norwegian will remain at Sheffield United,” as quoted by TV2 Sport. (31 January)
“At the weekend, the speculation surrounding Berge’s future flared up in earnest in the English media. TV 2 is aware that Berge’s agent Morten Wivestad has been in London for the past week to negotiate with clubs about a possible transfer.
“According to TV 2’s information, three clubs have been particularly relevant as possible destinations for the 24-year-old.
“The third club that was most relevant on the eve of the window was West Ham, but for various reasons they didn’t quite finish on the last day of the transfer window either.”

Summer interest.
The Hammers may well reignite their interest in Berge during the summer months, especially if Declan Rice leaves the club and they would be right to do so.
The towering maestro has been a key cog in Paul Heckingbottom’s Sheffield United side this season and could well see himself promoted to the Premier League with the Blades.
It seems like the Championship club have deemed losing Berge as too big of a risk as they chase down Burnley at the top of the table.
The fact the Hammers were the most relevant club in for his signature on deadline day tells you all you need to know, they are definitely interested in Berge.
He’d be a decent addition to the Irons engine room too and there are far worse players on the market for the team and David Moyes to explore.
This transfer story is worth keeping an eye on over the course of the campaign, it’s one which could be reignited in the summer.
