David Moyes told how he can stick ‘two fingers’ up at West Ham United board as decision made on future

Ian Ladyman says it is “obvious” David Moyes will not be West Ham boss next season, but believes the Scotsman can still have the final laugh.

Moyes is due to be out of contract at London Stadium at the end of the campaign, with no indication either way yet as to whether he will stay on.

The more time that passes without the 60-year-old signing a new deal, the more likely it looks he will make way in May.

However, Daily Mail journalist Ladyman says it would be a perfect sign-off for Moyes if he can guide West Ham to EFL Cup success this season.

“If you’re David Moyes, you’ve not been given a contract for next season and you’re obviously on your way out, it shouldn’t matter to him if they qualify for Europe or not,” he said on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast [18 December, 23m 50s].

“If I’m him, I’m thinking ‘I’ve given you a European trophy, this time I’ll do me damnedest to give you a domestic trophy to serve as two fingers to you lot as I walk out the door’.”

Statue

Moyes fully deserves this season after leading the club to Europa Conference League success earlier this year.

If the Scotsman can double up and add a domestic trophy to the collection, it will be time to get a statue commissioned outside London Stadium.

For that to happen, West Ham need to overcome Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday (20 December) – a ground they have had very little joy.

Should they beat the Reds, though, then there is no reason why the Irons cannot go on to add the EFL Cup to the Europa Conference League.

Surely nobody could seriously argue Moyes would not deserve a contract extension should he achieve that, but at the same time he may well want to move on.

Never would the former Manchester United manager’s stock have been higher than it will be if he lifts a trophy at Wembley.

It is enough to get you excited at the thought of it, but Liverpool will no doubt have other ideas in midweek.
