West Ham United: David Moyes to decide on future amid Ruben Amorim update – Sky Sports

West Ham won’t comment on reports of talks with Ruben Amorim and are doing “due diligence” on multiple manager options, according to Sky Sports.

Mike Wedderburn said live on Sky Sports News on 22 April that after pictures emerged showing the Sporting boss boarding a plane the Hammers are staying silent on speculation that he is in for a London meeting, following strong links to the Liverpool job.

Additionally, it was suggested that the decision on David Moyes’ future rests with the West Ham boss himself rather than the club.

Wedderburn said: “Breaking news in the last few minutes, West Ham are not commenting on reports suggesting they’re planning to hold talks with Sporting’s head coach Ruben Amorim.

“Pictures have emerged on social media which appear to be Amorim boarding a plane. Of course he’s been heavily linked with a potential move to Liverpool.

“Now, we’ve been told the club are doing due diligence on a number of managers, with the current boss, David Moyes, yet to make a decision on his future.”

West Ham look to steal in ahead of Liverpool?

Unless the update was just poorly-worded the idea that Moyes is in charge of his future at the London Stadium seems fanciful.

The former Manchester United and Everton boss would surely not have chosen to have been left stumbling through this season fielding endless questions about his future with just months remaining on his contract out of choice.

Officially it would be unlikely West Ham would confirm they are looking to appoint Amorim at this stage, in case they can’t agree a deal and make anyone else, including Moyes, look like a consolation, and as it would make the current boss’ position even more impossible for the final few games of the season.

But it certainly appears that there is now movement towards making a change in the summer, even if nothing can be guaranteed in light of the past two campaigns.

If the Irons were to appoint the manager who is currently 10 points clear at the top of the Portuguese top flight, having already won the title previously, it would arguably be exactly the sort of change that many fans have been calling for.

Clearly, Moyes’ achievements at the London Stadium can’t be overlooked, but the style of football and the failure to make the most of new arrivals has often frustrated.

How interested in landing the 39-year-old Liverpool are, or were, is unclear but the links to West Ham suddenly look strong.

The club haven’t handled Moyes’ future particularly well over the past year and a half, but with just a matter of weeks until his contract expires it seems a replacement is potentially being lined up.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are reaping the long-term rewards from the stupidity of “idiots”.
