West Ham are close to reaching an agreement with Julen Lopetegui over replacing David Moyes, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Italian outlet reported on its website on Sunday (21 April) that Lopetegui will not be taking over at AC Milan as he is instead close to agreeing the West Ham job.

United are said to have ramped up talks with Lopetegui following the heavy loss to Crystal Palace, with a three-year London Stadium deal mooted.

David Moyes could be on way out of West Ham

Speaking after the 5-2 defeat at Selhurst Park, Moyes accepted that his future may be out of his own hands.

Despite being offered a new deal earlier this year, there has been a general feeling that the manager and the club could go their separate ways in the summer.

Indeed, with no more European football and results such as the 5-2 reverse at Palace, it may well be that the process is speeded up.

Many will question if Lopetegui is the best choice for the Irons given that his most recent job saw him quit fellow Premier League side Wolves.

However, he has also previously managed Real Madrid, Porto and Spain, while also winning the Europa League while in charge of Sevilla.

The CV certainly ticks plenty of boxes, yet some will wonder if this was similar to swapping Moyes for Manuel Pellegrini in the past.

Judging by this report, the Irons have clearly identified their man. Now it is a case of waiting for further updates to see how this one pans out.
