West Ham United: Darren Bent mocked as Lucas Paqueta to Arsenal transfer touted

Darren Bent was mocked by Andy Goldstein as he was asked whether West Ham ace Lucas Paqueta would start for Arsenal.

The Brazil international has been superb for West Ham once again this season after missing out on a move to Manchester City last summer.

Former Tottenham striker Bent said he believes Paqueta is good enough to start for “pretty much” every team in the Premier League.

Co-host Goldstein then asked Arsenal fan Bent specifically if he would start for Arsenal in a debate live on talkSPORT [25 March, 6:07pm].

Goldstein mocked Bent’s voice and said: “Let me guess ‘squad player’?”

Lucas Paqueta contract length at West Ham United

Bent had earlier suggested Paqueta will leave London Stadium in the coming months to join a Champions League team.

While the general consensus is that the Brazilian is off, the Irons will do all they possibly can to persuade him to stay on at London Stadium.

Paqueta is the star performer in this Irons side and starts every game if fit. That would not be the case at Arsenal or Manchester City.

Not that he is not good enough to start for both, but those sides have plenty of other options and rotate regularly between games.

Ultimately, the ball is in West Ham’s court as Paqueta still has three years to run on his contract with the option of a further year.

Unless one of those teams are willing to pay close to a nine-figure sum, the Irons should hold firm and retain the hugely talented playmaker.
