West Ham United sack update emerges on David Moyes

West Ham United manager David Moyes is currently “safe as houses” in his position at the London Stadium, but this could change if their torrid Premier League form continues, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Times reported earlier this week (20 February) that the Hammers boss was set to face the sack if his side lose to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday (25 February), following the dismal 2-0 defeat to Spurs.

That loss sent the Irons into the dreaded relegation zone and only two points off bottom-placed Southampton with 15 games of the Premier League season remaining.

With pressure mounting on Moyes, Football Insider shared (23 February) that former PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino was “keen” on taking the job at London Stadium should the club part ways with their current manager.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Daily Star reporter Brown said: “There’s no appetite to change the manager at West Ham right now.

“He’s safe as houses, I think, for the time being. They have some very big games coming up. And I think if they were to stay in the bottom three or get cut adrift over the next few weeks, I could see that changing.

“There was a point when I think West Ham seriously considered changing the manager and decided against it because they do still believe in David Moyes, having delivered their first European campaign in years, their best European campaign in years, their best finish in years.

“I do think they are willing to try and give him as much time as possible to get them out of this.”

Mixed messages

The messages coming directly out of West Ham United show complete faith in Moyes, but it is surely only a matter of time before his job security is brought into question.

Considering the copious amounts of money the club provided Moyes with in the summer, he hasn’t done anywhere near enough to meet the demands of the fanbase and the board.

it is a fair assumption that the Scotsman has been given a longer period of time to reverse these dwindling fortunes in the league due to his past successes in the Premier League, as well as his blemish-free record in Europe this term, but the Hammers hierarchy are coming under more pressure every week to cut Moyes adrift.

The match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday could go a long way to deciding the manager’s fate. A win could be the stepping stone Moyes needs to move up the Premier League table, while a loss could prove terminal.
