West Ham United could sign both Filip Kostic and Maxwel Cornet

The Sun’s Alan Nixon has hinted at West Ham United signing both Filip Kostic and Maxwel Cornet as the Hammers ramp up their interest in the wide men.

Nixon had revealed (via his Patreon, 27 July) that the Hammers are willing to pay £20million for the Ivory Coast international.

The Irons are also ramping up their interest in Filip Kostic with The Daily Mail. suggesting (28 July) that the Hammers are set to make an improved offer for the winger after seeing their initial £12million plus £3million add-ons turned down.

And now Nixon has hinted that the Hammers could still pursue moves for both players.

Replying to a message on Twitter (27 July) asking if Cornet was a move incase Kostic falls through, Nixon said: “Different types [of player].”

Need both?

It is quite tricky to fully decipher what Nixon is alluding to here, but he is certainly not ruling out the possibility of both players joining the club in the coming weeks.

They’re both versatile wide men but they do have differences in where they like to operate on the pitch.

Kostic is more of a wing-back whose quality stems from excellent deliveries into the box from a the left-hand side.

Cornet would be viewed as a player who could operate in a variety of attacking positions, having done so for Burnley in the 2021/22 season.

West Ham

The Ivory Coast international was utilised across the front line for Burnley last season and could be an attacking midfield option for Moyes to utilise.

If both players move to the club, it would give David Moyes the opportunity to be flexible in terms of the formations he decides to play.

West Ham have shown plenty of ambition this summer, so it really wouldn’t be a shock to see these two deals come to fruition, considering the relatively low prices.
