West Ham United could send Harrison Ashby out on loan this summer

West Ham young defender Harrison Ashby could be sent on loan in the summer, according to a report from Claret and Hugh.

The report on 15 June suggests that the youngster is set to be promoted to become the third-choice right-back once Ryan Fredericks leaves the club on a free transfer at the end of the month.

He made three appearances for the Hammers senior team in 2021/22, and the club could send him away to gain more experience.

Interesting dilemma

Ashby is one of the highly-rated young talents to come out from the club’s fabled academy.

He is on the cusp of a breakthrough in the senior team. However, he is only 20, and there is no rush to put him into the senior side straight away.

David Moyes has the likes of Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson as two reliable full-backs, and Ashby could struggle to get regular games.

While he may not get enough appearances in the Premier League, Moyes can definitely use him in the European games, depending on how serious the club take the competition.

It could be a very good opportunity for the youngster to play at a top level, especially in group games.

That being said, his age has to be considered. A season in the Championship could do a world of good for him, as he could return as a much better player.
