West Ham United could sack David Moyes if they lose v Wolves

West Ham United could sack manager David Moyes this weekend if they fail to produce a good result against Wolves, according to Jeunes Footeux.

The experienced Scottish manager is under serious pressure at the London Stadium having lost five of their first seven matches in the Premier League to leave them 18th in the table and in the relegation zone.

The visit of Bruno Lage’s Wolves on Saturday is likely to prove critical in the decision for the owners of the club with the performance just as important as the result at the end of 90 minutes.

If Moyes does get the sack, then he could be replaced by former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino who Jeunes Footeux claims has been contacted about the role should it become available.

This report contradicts what Jim White has heard who claimed that a board meeting at the London Stadium did not have Moyes’ future on the agenda at all.

Options

David Gold, David Sullivan and Daniel Kretinsky can’t just sack their manager in the middle of the season without knowing who is available to replace him at such short notice and immediately.

Pochettino is certainly an option and one that would be a big statement to the rest of the league, and indeed Europe, that the Hammers mean business if they could get it over the line.

But it is bordering on insane to have just one target and no backup plan if things go wrong, as they so often do in football, so the trio must have an extensive list of people ready to go if all else fails.

That is if they even sack Moyes which is still not a guarantee by any means and a thrashing of Lage’s Wolves on Saturday might see the tide change in the Scotsman’s favour once more.

One thing is for certain, things are never boring at West Ham.
