West Ham United could receive major boost in pursuit of Gianluca Scamacca thanks to PSG development

West Ham may receive a major boost in their pursuit of Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca with Paris Saint-Germain sending an ultimatum to the Serie A club, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper reported via their print edition on Sunday (July 1, page 23) that the French champions, after already signing Hugo Ekitike on a season-long loan, have issued a warning to the Italian outfit that they must reduce the demand for the forward or else they will move to other targets.

It is understood that Sassuolo are demanding a fee in the region of £38million to £43million in order to sell 23-year-old Italy international, which is too high for PSG.

The report adds that West Ham remain in direct contact with the player’s representative despite looking for other options as well, such as Chelsea’s Armando Broja.

Goalscorer

The striker’s role is arguably one of the positions that David Moyes has strongly prioritized this summer. After the Europa League semi-final defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt, the West Ham manager rued the lack of goals within his side where there was only one out-and-out striker in Michail Antonio.

In the 2021-22 season with Sassuolo, Scamacca was one of the bright spots for not just the club but in the entire Serie A season. He scored 16 goals, averaged 2.2 shots per goal and had a pass completion rate of 74% [Whoscored].

Those numbers show why the Irons are keen on signing the Italy international as not only he will provide cover for Antonio who has suffered from multiple injuries in the previous campaign but is young enough to develop into a world-class talent in the years to come, thus solving the striking problem at the London Stadium for a considerable amount of time.
