West Ham United could play ‘Nasty Trick’ to appoint Paulo Fonseca as manager over Marseille

West Ham United have been tipped to play a “nasty trick” to appoint Paulo Fonseca ahead of Marseille as David Moyes’ replacement, according to FootMercato.

Writing on their website (26 April), the French news outlet report that the Portuguese coach is the “priority” target to be Marseille’s new manager next season but they face competition from the Hammers.

The east London club “love” Fonseca and are said to be “seriously considering” appointing him this summer, with David Moyes expected to leave when his contract expires.

West Ham United must find a solution quickly

The Hammers are keen to find a new manager to replace Moyes as quickly as possible, because if it takes too long then it could potentially cause issues for the summer transfer window and the new season.

But they simply cannot afford to get things wrong, and they must consider all the available options and all the people that could potentially fill the role already in a job elsewhere.

Fonseca has been strongly linked with the job for a while now, even being tipped as the top candidate for the role, but there is going to be competition for his signature.

If they want to bring him in then they will need to decide if he is the main man or not, and make him an offer that is better than whatever he’ll get from elsewhere.

Getting something done before Moyes’ departure is officially confirmed may be nasty, but it may be exactly what is necessary to get in the number one option to replace him.

Moyes himself has said that there won’t be a decision made until the end of the season, but that could be the reason they miss out on their top target.
