West Ham United could hold off on major Nayef Aguerd announcement

West Ham United could hold off on announcing the major transfer of Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd until after the international break, according to ExWHUemployee.

The reliable source has reported that the deal is on the verge of completion for £25million, but the announcement may not come until next week.

It is suggested that the delay could be in case of any potential injuries being picked up while Aguerd is away with Morocco for their latest batch of fixtures.

Writing on the West Ham Way Patreon page on Saturday morning [04 June], Ex shared what could lead to the Irons holding back on the announcement.

“Nayef Aguerd, the Moroccan defender at Rennes, is someone we have been covering for almost a month now,” he wrote. “We believe the defender has been in the country, had photos with the kit, seen the training ground and also looked at places to live.

“The final touches to his transfer fee with clauses are being worked on but we believe the deal should go through for around £25m. We also think the club could be holding off any announcement until his international fixtures are completed in case of injury.”

Smart.

This is something that has really plagued us over the past year.

Injuries have been rife throughout our defence, and it has left David Moyes with a real headache during some of the biggest moments of our season – domestically and in Europe.

With more European commitments set for next season, moving early to secure another defender was critical and it looks as though this one is as good as done.

Aguerd coming for £25million will take off some of the pressure on the likes of Kurt Zouma and Craig Dawson to remain fit while Angelo Ogbonna continues his own recovery.

Should a serious injury strike during the remainder of this international break, the Irons will not want to have committed £25million on a defender who couldn’t play.

This is smart from the Hammers, and we have everything crossed that those final details can be ironed out, no injury happens and this one can be announced.
