West Ham United consider third Amadou Onana bid after two rejections – Sky Sports reporter

West Ham have not closed the door on their chase for Lille sensation Amadou Onana after seeing two bids rejected, Dharmesh Sheth reports.

The Hammers have previously had bids of €23million and €30million rejected by the French side, but are still deciding whether to put forward a new one.

According to a Tuesday (12 July) report from 90min it could take as much as £50million to tempt the Ligue 1 club to sell, with four years left to run on his contract.

But according to Sky Sports News reporter Sheth the Irons have not yet been put off, writing on his Twitter account: “Interest still there in Lille midfielder Amadou Onana. Deciding whether to go back in with 3rd bid.”

Everton and Newcastle are both after the 20-year-old, as noted in the 90min report, while French journalist Ignazio Genuardi has also reported that Arsenal and Liverpool like the player.

Tough target

With so long left on his contract it is a measure of how highly these teams all rate the Belgian international that they are thinking about a move at all since he will not come cheap.

But he appears to be the kind of prospect who could dominate a midfield for years to come considering his rise over the past year and his age.

The Hammers have shown themselves not to be averse to making a bid of the size supposedly required but haven’t been successful with one.

Former West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is now a senior player for England

Despite the arrival of Flynn Downes there is definitely a need for more support in central midfield, whether Tomas Soucek stays or goes.

The prospect of the youngster joining the new signing and club captain Declan Rice is exciting for fans and would certainly show the sort of intent that is required at this point in the squad’s cycle under David Moyes.

The manager still needs additions at striker and in defence so whether he would be willing to fork out such a large share of his budget at a position where he just signed someone remains to be seen.

But after two rejected bids it shows West Ham are very keen on bringing Onana in if they are still willing to try again.

If they were to spend big money it would be a high risk-high reward move since the midfield man lacks extensive experience but has shown a lot in the senior football he has played.
