West Ham United consider loan move for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire in January

West Ham are “considering” a move to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire on loan in the January transfer window, as reported by The Mirror.

The Hammers are looking to add another centre-back to their ranks with Craig Dawson’s future uncertain. The 32-year-old defender has been targeted by Wolves, and he remains keen on a return from East London to the West Midlands.

Maguire has started just one of United’s four Premier League wins after the World Cup, and the Red Devils will be ready to sell him in the summer window of 2023.

Replacement for Dawson?

Maguire arrived at Old Trafford for £80 million from Leicester City in 2019 and he became the world’s most expensive defender at that time.

He was a regular starter under Gareth Southgate for England in the World Cup in Qatar but has lost his place in the United’s starting line-up since Erik Ten Hag took charge last summer.

The 29-year-old centre-back has got vast experience and has made 492 appearances in his club career since making his debut for Sheffield United in 2010.

Dawson has been superb for West Ham, and David Moyes wants to keep him at the club. He is valued at around £7 million.

Wolves have had a bid turned down for Dawson already. The Hammers are considering a number of options for Dawson’s replacement and Maguire won’t be a bad option.

The Red Devils are reportedly looking to sell him in the summer, and it remains to be seen if they could be persuaded to allow the player to leave on loan in January as well.
