ExWHUemployee: West Ham United concerned as Gianluca Scamacca returns abroad for assessment

West Ham United have concerns over the fitness of Gianluca Scamacca, with the forward returning abroad for an extra assessment of his knee injury, according to ExWHUemployee.

Scamacca sustained the knee injury in the club’s clash against Leeds United and has since been missing from David Moyes’ side.

Ex had revealed that the forward underwent a number of knee injections in the hope he’d be able to return against Chelsea on 11 February, although, it’s unclear if the treatment has been successful.

West Ham

“West Ham have concerns over the fitness of Gianluca Scamacca, which could prevent his return to action this weekend,” as quoted by West Ham Way. (9 February)

“ExWHUEmployee exclusively revealed that the club had opted for the player to undergo a series of knee injections, and that the player has since received specialist treatment.

“Since this was undertaken, the Italian international returned to West Ham, raising hopes he could well be in the frame to face Chelsea in our London derby on Saturday.

“However, Ex has since revealed that there are still concerns and that it is understood the player has returned to abroad for assessment on whether the treatment has been successful.”

West Ham United

No surprise.

Scamacca’s return to action for West Ham United would be extremely welcomed with the club only scoring 18 goals across 21 games this season.

Getting injections for injuries never suggests an instant return to action though and it seems the Irons faithful will have to wait just that bit longer to see the Italian on the pitch again.

A win over Everton followed up by a hard-fought draw against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park suggests that Moyes’ side are on the up.

Getting through this season unscathed needs to be the priority for the Hammers and Moyes right now, only then can the club can look towards tweaking a few things in the summer months.

Fortunately, in Scamacca’s absence, the Scot can look towards Danny Ings, Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen for some attacking outlets in his team.

Nevertheless, Moyes’ poor management of Antonio this season has left the striker potentially wanting out of life at the London Stadium and this is a relationship that needs to be mended soon.
