West Ham United: Chris Sutton shares ‘phenomenal’ Jarrod Bowen verdict in Euro 2024 admission
West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen has given England manager Gareth Southgate some “food for thought” ahead of the Euros, according to Chris Sutton.
The English international scored his 15th Premier League goal of the season in the Hammers’ 4-3 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday (30 March) with an excellent right-footed effort early in the second half.
While Sutton admits the 27-year-old has been in “phenomenal” form for David Moyes’ side this season, he still doesn’t believe the Hammers winger will start for the Three Lions in this summer’s tournament in Germany.
Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off (1 April, 47:15) he said: “I’m not surprised. His numbers have been good for however many seasons now. He was a David Moyes signing wasn’t he from Hull back in the day?
“To think he’s got a chance at the Euros, it’s difficult to see him getting a start but he’s giving Gareth some food for thought. He’s been a phenomenal player for West Ham.”

As Sutton suggested, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see Bowen scoring week in and week out for West Ham because he has been impressing in a claret and blue shirt for a number of seasons now.
The English international has been phenomenal for the Hammers in a variety of different roles this term and while his goalscoring record speaks for itself, his all-round game has improved massively from this time last year.
Whether that will be enough to earn a start at this summer’s European Championships remains to be seen, but Bowen simply has to be included in Southgate’s squad for the tournament. It will be an absolute outrage if he is left in England.
Hopefully, the 27-year-old will finish the season strongly at the London Stadium and help the Irons book their place in Europe for another year. If he keeps up his recent exploits, it’s hard to see him not featuring in Germany this summer.
