West Ham United chiefs slammed by BBC Sport pundit, ‘obvious’ David Moyes sack decision emerges

West Ham boss David Moyes should perhaps shake hands with club chiefs and move on, according to BBC pundit Michael Brown.

Brown believes the Scot, who he labelled a “wonderful” manager, must be realistic about his position at the London Stadium club.

The Hammers are eighth in the Premier League table and are into the knockout stages of the Europa League after topping their group.

“If I’m Moyes, I’d almost shake the club’s hand and say ‘thank you very much, it’s obvious whatever I do we’re not going to please everyone, you haven’t given me my contract so why don’t you replace me and get someone else in?’” Brown told BBC Sport.

“I know it’s a tough job and I know he’s not a quitter, it’s not quitting, but you’ve got to be realistic. If you’re saying you get them sixth, you give them a European title, he’s won that trophy and he’s still not getting a new contract, I think that’s just a mixed message.

“The supporters start gathering even more pace when it could have been put to bed much earlier. He just needs to wish them well and say ‘let’s move on to the next one’.

“He’s a wonderful manager with great experience, but you’d be amazed if this situation turns around. The fans are paying the money so let’s put someone else in who can give them a better style and let’s see how it goes. It’s over to the club now to make that decision.”

West Ham to keep Moyes?

The Hammers have yet to confirm any news about a new contract for Moyes, with the manager’s current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

It is certainly an interesting situation that the London Stadium club finds itself in, with the boss having been the one to guide them to a very famous night in Europe last season.

Another memorable evening could be on the cards this season, this time in the Europa League, while they are doing more than okay in the Premier League despite being recently thumped 6-0 by Arsenal.

Complaints from the Hammers faithful have arisen regarding his counter-attacking playing style, but others are appreciative and know that they don’t have the exact squad needed to go toe-to-toe with some of the best clubs in the world.

It remains to be seen if a different manager could produce different results in East London, with Moyes needing to leave or be sacked for that experiment to take place.
