West Ham United captain Declan Rice heaps praise on teammates’ performance v Liverpool

West Ham United captain Declan Rice has been left proud of his teammate’s performance on Wednesday evening against Liverpool.

The Hammers slumped to an unfortunate 1-0 loss and a Jarrod Bowen missed penalty could have evened things up for them before half-time.

Rice admitted that he was “proud” of the Irons’ performance on the night and was left feeling sick by the loss, in a game he thinks they could have got points from.

“I feel sick, I honestly feel sick. We know it is tough place to come, you have to show grit, heart and desire,” said Rice as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“There was enough in the second half to nick something from the game. We are showing signs we can compete with the big boys.

“To show the courage we did in the second half, dominating the ball and creating chances, I’m proud of everyone. I’m just gutted we couldn’t get something from the game like we should have.”

Rice right.

Rice is right on this one, the Hammers battled hard on Wednesday evening and deserved something from the game, they were unlucky to come away from Anfield with a loss.

There were plenty of chances for both teams on the night and the way West Ham performed in the second half is kudos to the team’s turnaround this campaign.

If Bowen had scored that penalty it would have been a completely different game on the day and you’d think West Ham could have scraped something.

Despite the loss, there’s plenty of encouragement for Rice and his team to take away from Anfield, they competed on every front with a team who beat Manchester City just days before.

Sometimes this sort of attitude and performance is all you can ask for and the gritty performance highlighted the team’s progression in form.

Next up for West Ham United is Bournemouth on Monday evening, a must-win clash in the Londoners have any European ambitions this campaign.
