West Ham United cannot afford the proposed £30million fee for Jesse Lingard

West Ham United want a permanent move for Jesse Lingard but cannot afford the proposed £30 million fee, according to The Athletic.

The 28-year-old is seen as one of Manchester United’s highest value assets, and some at the club feel a new deal would protect his transfer value with just 12 months left on his current deal.

Others reckon this summer is the right time to sell Lingard as he deserves to be playing every week somewhere else.

Pay up GSB

Hammers boss David Moyes made his feelings clear back in May that he would love to have the England international back for next season [Sky Sports].

However, it does appear that the West Ham board are not willing to meet the Red Devils asking price.

Lingard ended his six-month loan with us with nine goals and four assists in 16 Premier League games, and not many would blame Man Utd for demanding the quoted fee.

He is worth it and it would not be surprising if there are suitors willing to pay for him.

Parting with £30million for a top player should not be hard for us to do if we really want to push for the top-four next season, but this board continues to disappoint.

West Ham spent £45million on Sebastien Haller [BBC] and there should be nothing stopping us from splashing the cash on Lingard.

We could regret missing out on him if he ends up moving elsewhere, and Moyes would need to look for some bargain deals this summer with the board not keen on spending a huge outlay on a single player.

That is hardly surprising given how David Sullivan, David Gold and Karren Brady operate.
