West Ham United boss David Moyes understands fans’ frustration at substitute decision

West Ham United boss David Moyes has responded to fans’ anger for his decision to substitute in-form forward Gianluca Scamacca against Southampton.

Summer signing Scamacca has been in frightening form in recent weeks and had scored in back-to-back Premier League outings before Sunday’s clash.

Moyes admitted that he understood fans’ frustrations at him for substituting the Italy international with three minutes to go on the clock.

West Ham

“I can understand it,” Moyes said of his fans’ response as quoted by the Evening Standard.

“We were gung-ho, we were just looking at somebody who we thought had run out of steam. We got him further than we’ve got him in any other game, so no problem.”

West Ham

Solid.

It was another solid outing from the Italian on Sunday afternoon and he’s starting to thrive in the Claret and Blue of West Ham United.

His performance had pretty much everything but the finishing touch of a goal, he’s slowly becoming the focal point of everything the Hammers do well.

The forward’s ability to hold the ball up top and then turn at a quick pace is a useful attribute to have against physical and tough Premier League defences.

Scamacca has now completely solidified his place as the go-to striker for Moyes moving forward, West Ham have a real player on their hands here.

He’s an all-rounder of a striker and makes things look incredibly easy when they really shouldn’t be, his attributes look like a match made in heaven for the English top flight.

Scamacca will have his biggest test to date against Liverpool on Wednesday evening, it will be interesting to see how he fares against Virgil Van Dijk.
