West Ham United boardroom mess emerges amid Julen Lopetegui sack talks
West Ham United are discussing potential replacements for Julen Lopetegui but “fractions” have emerged in the boardroom, according to Alex Crook.
talkSPORT journalist Crook wrote on X [5 December] that, during talks regarding candidates to take over from the Spaniard, one major problem has been the split among the Hammers’ hierarchy on selecting the right man for the job.
The Irons sit 14th in the Premier League table and have just four wins this season after their 3-1 loss to Leicester on 3 December at the King Power.
Crook wrote: “One of the big issues West Ham have is different fractions of the board pulling for different potential replacements to Lopetegui. All sounds a bit of a mess.”
West Ham United need stability after Julen Lopetegui
Lopetegui has unarguably been a failure at the London Stadium so far after struggling to bring out the best of a talented squad at the East London club.
The Spanish head coach’s sacking seems inevitable, but it looks like the supporters will have to wait for a change, with the 58-year-old being given another chance to lead the team ahead of the Wolves clash [Fabrizio Romano, 5 December].
At the King Power, the away supporters made their feelings clear regarding Lopetegui, chanting for his dismissal, and it remains to be seen what the mood around the London Stadium will be when Gary O’Neil’s team arrive on 9 December.
West Ham are in a precarious situation at the moment, hovering around the relegation zone, and things could get worse if the Spanish head coach can’t turn things around.

There are several candidates that the Hammers are looking at, including the likes of Edin Terzic, Graham Potter and Sergio Conceicao [The Sun, 3 December].
David Sullivan needs to take the reins at the Irons and pick the best man for the job, which Potter could be considering his vast experience in the English top flight.
The Englishman didn’t have the best of spells at Chelsea, but his work at Brighton was admired by many.
But with the chaos in the boardroom, it remains to be seen how long the decision to part ways with Lopetegui will take.
