West Ham United board want Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma but David Moyes not keen

West Ham United’s board are happy to push through for a deal for Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma but David Moyes isn’t “keen” on the 25-year-old according to The Express.

The Express reported on Thursday 30 June that the Hammers were more than happy to finance a deal for the Dutch international after discussions with the Spanish club.

However, it has been suggested that Moyes is instead looking to pursue a move for Jesse Lingard instead with 90min reporting on 28 June that the West Ham boss is “pushing hard” for the 29-year-old.

West Ham

The Express did claim that Danjuma is relaxed about his future and would be willing to wait until January to secure a move if the Hammers cannot finance a move for him and Lingard.

Understandable

In an ideal world, West Ham would add both Danjuma and Lingard to their ranks this summer but ultimately finances will prevent a double move from happening at present for Moyes.

It is understandable why Moyes is keen to pursue a move for Lingard given his previous exploits at the London Stadium.

He knows what the Englishman is like and Lingard has proven he can perform at the top end of the Premier League.

Danjuma would be an expensive signing and somewhat of an unknown quantity if he did make the move to a top-half Premier League side, with the Dutch winger previously playing for relegation-threatened Bournemouth.

West Ham

Although Danjuma was an instrumental piece of the Villarreal side that reached the Champions League semi-final in the 2021/22 season, he can clearly perform at the top level.

Moyes clearly feels Lingard is the safer option at present, which is a shame as the 25-year-old Netherlands international would’ve been an exciting addition for the Hammers.

It is certainly a move that could be revisited in the future and let’s hope that is the case.
