West Ham United board ‘too scared’ to sack David Moyes amid reports of continued support
West Ham’s board are “too scared” to sack under-pressure manager David Moyes due to a lack of alternative options available, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The Hammers were thrashed 4-0 by Brighton at the weekend, leaving them 16th in the Premier League and just two points clear of the bottom of the table.
The Daily Mail reported on 5 March that as it stands, the Irons board still support Moyes and won’t sack him and Jones believes the Hammers chiefs ‘don’t feel confident enough’ to sack Moyes as there isn’t an obvious candidate available to replace him.

Speaking to GiveMeSport [8 March], he said: “My information at the moment is that the board do not have that manager in mind that either has a high enough profile or is enough of a guarantee of success that they’re going to do a better job than Moyes that they can pull the trigger and go for it.
“They just don’t feel confident enough about that at all, and until that moment comes, they’re too scared to get rid of Moyes.”
Understandable
Considering the job Moyes has done at the London Stadium until now, it’s perfectly understandable that the board were maybe too hesitant or scared to sack him.
There is a lack of quality replacements out there and the names that have been touted in recent weeks are all currently doing excellent jobs elsewhere. There is no need to make knee-jerk reactions which could cause huge ramifications in the long run.

The Hammers have undergone a disappointing and underwhelming Premier League and Moyes does have to take some of the flack for that, considering the amount of money he spent on the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca, players who were supposed to improve his squad considerably.
Right now, Moyes is arguably the Hammers’ best chance of avoiding the drop as there are no one else out there to come in so soon and galvanise the squad in such a short space of time.
But that doesn’t take away the criticism and scrutiny of Moyes who could well leave at the end of the season.
