West Ham United: Ben Jacobs moots Newcastle role for Tim Steidten, David Sullivan stance shared
West Ham technical director Tim Steidten could be tempted with a move to Newcastle United, according to Ben Jacobs.
The journalist believes the London Stadium chief could replace Dan Ashworth at St James’ Park after he was placed on gardening leave amid interest from Manchester United.
Jacobs added that David Sullivan likes Steidten, and does not want to see the technical director leave the London Stadium.
“There could be a few names out there who have worked in the Premier League that Newcastle consider,” Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT (25 February). “They can’t go to Brighton & Hove Albion again and get Sam Jewell because he will join Chelsea.
“It will be interesting to see what happens with Steidten at West Ham. He’s new and liked by David Sullivan, and he’s not a name that West Ham want to leave. But the Newcastle project might be tempting. We’ll have to wait and see.”
Will West Ham lose Tim Steidten to Newcastle United?
Steidten has done a superb job at the London Stadium so far, with the likes of Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Mohammed Kudus all arriving during his tenure.
He had a difficult start to life in East London after Declan Rice left, but the recent midfield recruits have filled that gap expertly.
January arrival Kalvin Phillips certainly hasn’t settled in as well as the others, but perhaps more time is needed for the England international to come good.
It would be a huge blow to lose Steidten, particularly given that he hasn’t been at the club for very long, but the sporting director vacancy at Newcastle may worry Sullivan.
The Hammers veteran is undoubtedly a fan of his technical director, but his great job in East London is seemingly generating interest elsewhere, with Liverpool links also surfacing in recent times.

Amid all the noise behind the scenes, manager David Moyes and his players need to get back to the basics in order to start picking some much-needed points.
