West Ham United begin transfer discussions with Julen Lopetegui after David Moyes update
Julen Lopetegui has already discussed summer transfer plans with West Ham United as he looks set to replace David Moyes, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialist reported via X on Monday (6 May) that the former Real Madrid boss has held talks with the Hammers and shared his views as the Irons begin to prepare for the opening of the transfer window.
West Ham announced in an official statement on Monday (6 May) that they would be parting company with Moyes at the end of the season and the expiry of his contract and it is clear that succession plans are in place.
Writing on X, he said: “Julen Lopetegui already shared his plans and views with West Ham ahead of the summer transfer window. Spanish manager will become new WHUFC head coach to replace David Moyes, as reported.”

It has been widely reported that Lopetegui is the frontrunner to take over the reins at the London Stadium following Moyes’ exit, but it seems talks are incredibly advanced judging by Romano’s latest update.
With the transfer window just around the corner, it is good to see that the former Real Madrid boss already has plans in place for what the squad needs to change. Hopefully, this means he will have an immediate impact.
While the majority of the side has performed reasonably well for much of the season, there are one or two players that most supporters will agree should be moved on come the summer, particularly in the backline.
Hopefully, the board will back their new manager in the transfer market once this appointment is made public. There is absolutely no point in changing the manager if he is left with exactly the same squad and with some big exits mooted, some money will have to be spent.
