West Ham United: BBC pundit awestruck by what Alphonse Areola did in win v Everton
Leon Osman was wowed by what Alphonse Areola did in the West Ham victory against Everton on Saturday (2 March).
Speaking on co-commentary for American TV channel Peacock on Saturday, the BBC pundit said “what a save that is” as the French international denied Dwight McNeil from point-blank range.
With the Toffees 1-0 up to the Toffees at that point, he added that it could be a “huge moment” in the game and that’s what it proved to be as the Hammers turned it around to secure a 3-1 victory, with the goals coming from captain Kurt Zouma, Tomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez at Goodison Park.
“What a save this is,” said Osman. “What a huge moment this could turn out to be. If Everton get a second there, the confidence well and truly is flowing.
“Good play, breaking forward and creating that opportunity. As good of a save as it is, he has to score in that moment.”
Alphonse Areola in inspired form for West Ham against Everton
It was an exceptional performance from Areola against Everton as he showed precisely why David Moyes has decided to make him West Ham’s number one this season.
The 31-year-old keeper made a string of impressive stops, including the save to deny McNeil when it seemed harder for the Toffees winger to miss.
That inspired the Hammers into securing a comeback victory as Zouma registered against his old side before Soucek and Alvarez scored in injury time to earn the three points for their side.

While the Irons boss will be disappointed with the way his side played for the first 60 minutes, he will be delighted with how they responded to going behind.
This could prove to be a massive moment for the Scotsman after there’s been so much speculation around his position at the London Stadium.
