talkSPORT pundit Scott Minto baffled by West Ham United stat ahead of game v Aston Villa

Scott Minto was left baffled by a stat presented to him by talkSPORT host Sam Matterface ahead of the Premier League match between Aston Villa and West Ham this weekend.

West Ham make the trip to Villa Park on Sunday (22 October) sitting seventh in the table, two points and two places behind the Villans.

The Hammers have a good record in this fixture as they have gone 10 games without defeat against Villa, winning six of those in a run stretching back to December 2015.

West Ham

When that stat was put to Minto by Matterface on the Premier League All Access podcast [18 October, 27m 56s], the former West Ham defender was unable to explain why that may be the case.

“I have no idea. I didn’t know that,” he said.

Asked how he sees this latest contest panning out, Minto added: “I think it’ll be a score draw.”

Keep it going

In the same way that West Ham struggle against certain teams, they also perform better against some more than others.

The most recent encounter between the sides in March ended in a 1-1 draw at London Stadium, with that ending a run of five successive wins in this fixture for United.

That includes a run of three straight victories at Villa Park that is still ongoing ahead of this weekend’s trip to the West Midlands.

West Ham

In truth, many would probably welcome a draw from what is a tough fixture against high-flying opponents, but West Ham should be heading to Villa Park with the aim of coming back with all three points.

Villa are one of the sides United are likely to be competing with for a European spot, so let’s hope David Moyes’ men can lay down a marker of sorts by extending this unbeaten run against them.

In other West Ham news, three Hammers are back in training ahead of the club’s return to action.
