West Ham United are showing character but still have a lot to prove this season – Jarrod Bowen
West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen insists the club have shown a lot of character and resilience in recent weeks, but still have a lot more to prove this season.
The Hammers have undergone an underwhelming campaign in the Premier League this season after their success last term, currently sitting in 16th place in the table just two points from the drop zone.
The club have enjoyed a decent upturn in results and performances in the past few weeks, unbeaten in their last three games in the league and Bowen admits the club need to start picking up wins despite their improvement.

Speaking on the club website ahead of their crucial London derby with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, [WHUFC.com, 18 February] he said: “We don’t hide away from our position.
“It’s about us as players getting ourselves out of this situation.
“Since the World Cup, we have put together some good performances and good results, but we are still in the conversation of being in the bottom three, so we have got massive games coming up.
“If you look at the league you can win two on the bounce and get back up to mid-table and give yourself some breathing space.
“But we know it is not going to be handed to us. We have got to earn it. We have had positive signs against two top teams, Chelsea and Newcastle United, where we have gone behind in both games and shown the old West Ham: coming back, showing resilience and fighting spirit.”
Need wins
It has indeed been a disappointing campaign for the Hammers where they currently find themselves just two points above the drop zone, especially considering their tremendous success over the last two campaigns.
The club’s current plight is baffling considering the amount of money they spent over the summer, acquiring the quality they needed in the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca.

The Hammers have endured their fair share of injury troubles throughout which has led to some inconsistencies in terms of personnel for David Moyes. But this is a club that should be up there with the likes of Newcastle United considering the bags of quality at their disposal.
Certainly, the club have improved in recent weeks but they really need to start picking up some wins on the board if they are to steer clear of a needless relegation battle, which they are highly expected to.
And Bowen remains a huge part of their ambitions this season, with the club still in the FA Cup and Europa Conference League, so it isn’t all doom and gloom.
