West Ham United are keen on signing Sampdoria midfielder Morten Thorsby

West Ham United are looking to snap up Sampdoria midfielder Morten Thorsby this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian outlet published in their print edition (June 1, page 14) that the Hammers have run the rule over the Norwegian international a lot of times, and they are convinced that he has what it takes to hit the ground running in the Premier League.

West Ham are not the only ones keen on Thorsby, though, with Napoli and Atalanta also keeping an eye on the 25-year-old.

While his contract does not expire until 2023, the former Heerenveen midfielder is available for a transfer this summer and could be gotten for an affordable fee.

Good signing for West Ham?

With Europa League football added to our calendar for next season, we could really do with quality depth in the middle of the park.

Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice will need more than Mark Noble as their only back-up, and Thorsby could be a great addition to the squad.

As highlighted by WhoScored, the Norwegian is very strong in aerial duels and tackling, and those skill sets would come in handy for the Hammers.

The Serie A man is also good at blocking the ball, but his discipline could be an issue as he picked up 10 yellow cards in 33 league games in 2020-21.

Thorsby brings an attacking threat to the table, though, scoring thrice and assisting once during the campaign, and more goals from the midfielders would be massive for West Ham.

He has proven himself in a top league and is the type of signing we should be going after.

While the report was not able to provide a valuation for him, Transfermarkt believes he is currently worth around €6million, and that could prove to be a huge bargain for anyone that lands him this summer.
