West Ham United approach for Aaron Wan-Bissaka rejected

West Ham United have had a deadline day approach to sign Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka rejected, according to talkSPORT.

The 24-year-old has found himself relegated to the Old Trafford bench this season with new manager Erik Ten Hag preferring Diogo Dalot at right-back.

The Democratic Republic of Congo international was thought to be available for transfer and West Ham had made an approach to bring him to the London Stadium before the transfer deadline struck.

But with United failing to sign another right-back to cover for Dalot, the Red Devils are now reluctant to let him leave the club this summer and have turned down the Irons’ offer.

Wan-Bissaka was touted to come to the Hammers and potentially play as a central defender having spent his entire career so far as a full-back.

Blessing

David Moyes might have just got away with one here because Wan-Bissaka is not good enough to play as a central defender at any Premier League side.

His positional awareness leaves a lot to be desired which is often why he has to pull off these outstanding sliding tackles rather than a simple interception.

West Ham

Right-back is a position that needs no improvements either with Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson having that area on lockdown for some time now and Kurt Zouma, Thilo Kehrer, Craig Dawson (for now), Angelo Ogbonna and eventually Nayef Aguerd is plenty in the centre.

There will be better options that will arise at centre-half if Moyes has decided that is where he wants to improve so the idea that he can mould a full-back into that position is mental.

It has been a very good transfer window for the Irons so far and they could do without harming that with a panicked last-minute signing in an area that is not critical.
