West Ham United: Angelo Ogbonna likes social media post on Edson Alvarez and Declan Rice

Angelo Ogbonna has liked a post on social media suggesting his West Ham teammate Edson Alvarez is just as good as Declan Rice.

The tweet by a West Ham fan account on Wednesday (3 January) asked what the former Hammers captain does that the Mexican international doesn’t do after he was named Man of the Match in the 0-0 draw against Brighton on Tuesday (2 January).

The England international left the Irons in a £105million deal to join Arsenal over the summer, with the 26-year-old midfielder signing from Dutch club Ajax for £35.4millon to replace him.

Great business

It was great business all around from West Ham to receive £105million for Rice and secure his replacement for a third of that price.

There is no doubt that the former Hammers captain was an incredible player for us, but it was the right time for him to move on and everyone at the club was more than happy with what we received for him.

After monitoring Alvarez’s situation for a few weeks over the summer, the Hammers decided to bring him in and the club’s hierarchy should be delighted with their decision.

West Ham

The Mexican has shown several excellent defensive qualities in the first half of the campaign and has already built up a promising partnership with fellow midfielders James Ward-Prowse and Tomas Soucek.

He will be looking to continue putting in his trademark battling performances over the next few months as they will be crucial to any success we could achieve this season.
