West Ham United and Lazio could miss out on Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski

West Ham could miss out on Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski this summer, as reported by Calciomercato.

The Italian media outlet reported on 3 August that the Hammers have made a strong push to sign the Polish international last week.

His move to the Premier League didn’t materialise, and he is now set to remain in Napoli for another season.

Serie A club Lazio are keen to secure his signature, and it could be a welcome destination for him.

Another attempt?

ExWHUemployee reported on 28 July that the Hammers are still in negotiation to sign the former Empoli midfielder.

On the one hand, there was a challenge to reach an agreement with Napoli, but the major problem was to convince the player to leave Italy to join the Premier League.

Lukasz Fabianski could have played a key role in luring the player to join him at West Ham, but transfer deals seldom work that way. Zielinski has spent all his life in Italy, and it’s not easy for him to move to a different league and challenge himself.

He has been a key player for the Naples club over the years. In the past six seasons at the club, he has made over 280 appearances, and it looks like he will stay at the club beyond the end of the summer.

While a move away from Napoli cannot be completely ruled out, there is a possibility that he could sign a new contract at the Naples club as well.

West Ham are close to securing the signing of Amadou Onana from Lille, and it remains to be seen if they will still be willing to bring Zielinski to the London Stadium.
