West Ham United Alphonse Areola deal stalls after late Newcastle United interest
West Ham United’s move for Paris Saint-German goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has “stalled” after late interest from Newcastle United in the 29-year-old, according to The Daily Mail.
It had been revealed by Fabrizio Romano on his personal Twitter account on 31 May that West Ham were planning a £7.6million bid for the Frenchmen after his loan spell at the London Stadium in 2021/22.
However, as reported by the Daily Mail on Thursday (9 June), Newcastle expressing an interest in the goalkeeper has “stalled” talks with the Hammers.

The Irons still remain hopeful of securing a deal for the PSG man with ongoing talks with his agent and the belief that he will prefer to stay in London.
Big blow
This would be a huge blow for David Moyes and West Ham after Areola’s good loan spell for the club and potential to be the Hammers’ number one next season.
A move for Areola will save Moyes a huge transfer headache going into the summer with the PSG man a cheap and good option.
If the Magpies swoop for the keeper Moyes will have to reassess his budget in order to find a new shot stopper to rival Lukasz Fabianski.
Regardless of the Areola situation, Moyes should be looking for a new number one next season after Fabianski’s displays towards the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

The 37-year-old has been a great servant to the club, but his performance against Brighton on the final day of the Premier League season suggested that his performance levels are starting to decline.
Moyes will be hopeful that Areola is settled in London and doesn’t make the move to St James’ Park.
With the Magpies’ immense financial backing, this could be a nervous wait for the Hammers.
In other West Ham news, another wide player Moyes is interested in has previous with the Scot and maybe the London stadium can be the arena for his career revamp.
