West Ham United: Ally McCoist gushes over ‘top-class’ Lucas Paqueta after what he saw

West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta has been “top-class” in claret and blue, according to Ally McCoist.

The verdict from the talkSPORT pundit comes after the Hammers ace played for Brazil as they beat England 1-0.

Paqueta started and played 71 minutes as the South American nation beat the Three Lions in a Wembley friendly on Saturday (23 March).

“England in qualifying games look the part, and they are, they always qualify with some style,” McCoist said on talkSPORT.

“But they were effectively playing against a Real Madrid and Barcelona side… Paqueta is top-class at West Ham, Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle… you’re talking about an extremely high level of forward-thinking players.”

West Ham star Lucas Paqueta has night to remember at Wembley

There were a whole host of star players on show at the national stadium on Saturday, for both England and Brazil.

And it was the visitors who ran out narrow winners, with Real Madrid-bound Endrick scoring a late winner from the bench.

Hammers star Paqueta was certainly in the thick of the action from the very first whistle, with the midfield ace pulling the strings at Wembley.

He almost grabbed an early assist for Vinicius Junior, but his lack of discipline was also on show, with Paqueta making several fouls throughout the match, one of which angered the England players.

The talented player will likely play another key role when Brazil meet Spain in another friendly clash on Tuesday (26 March).

England meanwhile take on Belgium on the same night, in another friendly at Wembley, with Paqueta’s London Stadium teammate Jarrod Bowen potentially getting some more minutes after his substitute appearance against Brazil.

In other West Ham news, Howard Webb and Michael Owen were in agreement over a “complicated” controversy in the recent clash with Aston Villa.
