West Ham United agree £27m-plus Gianluca Scamacca transfer as ‘money keeps coming in’ – Sky Sports

West Ham have agreed a deal worth a total of €32million [£27.6m] to sell Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta as the fee due at the London Stadium has gone up, according to Sky Sports.

Jasper Taylor reported live on Sky Sports News Sunday night (6 August) that a guaranteed fee of €26m with another €6m on the cards in add-ons [£22.4m plus £5.2m] has been settled on, as West Ham will “recoup the majority of what they paid Sassuolo for Scamacca last summer”.

The 24-year-old is in Rome for his medical which will be completed on Monday, and added “the money keeps coming in for West Ham after that huge sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal, and fans will be asking if it’s now time to start spending”.

The Hammers have so far failed to sign anyone despite securing a £105million deal to sell their former captain to the Emirates.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg had already reported earlier on Sunday that Scamacca has signed his deal to join Atalanta, but had said at the time the fee from Bergamo was set to total €30m [£25.9m], so the money involved is reportedly now higher.

Back to square one

It is a small silver lining that the fee received is greater than expected but it still can’t dress up the fact that the big-money answer to the striker position has left after a single season with his value reduced.

He signed last summer for up to £35.5m [Sky Sports] and was supposed to take the burden off Michail Antonio’s shoulders after the Jamaica international had covered the central striking job virtually alone for so long.

Instead he joins Sebastien Haller as expensive flops at the London Stadium, and if he also emulates the Frenchman in going on to have great success after leaving the club it will be all the more frustrating for Irons fans.

West Ham

Antonio has apparently had an eye on leaving for some time, and Danny Ings’ January arrival hasn’t been overly successful either, and there are doubts over the futures of both at West Ham.

So there are big questions for David Moyes to answer in terms of finding goal scorers for the foreseeable future after swinging and missing on Scamacca.

And with time running out as the 1 September transfer deadline rapidly approaches he is going to have to find a way to work with Tim Stiedten to get it done fast, with striker added to central midfield, left-back and centre-back as transfer priorities in what has so far been a barren window.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have finally agreed personal terms on a potential crucial signing according to Fabrizio Romano.
