West Ham United agree 25% sell-on clause for Aji Alese as Sunderland deal confirmed

West Ham United have agreed a 25% sell-on clause with Sunderland as Aji Alese’s move was confirmed, according to ExWHUemployee.

The reliable source has reported that the Championship side will pay £500,000 for the defender, with add-ons once certain milestones are reached.

The Hammers have done similar in the past with the likes of Josh Cullen and Reece Cullen moving on after failing to make their breakthrough consistently from the academy.

Writing on the official West Ham Way Patreon on Friday afternoon (15 July), Ex shared the news after the deal was confirmed much to the surprise of some.

“We can exclusively reveal the fee that the club obtained for selling centre back Aji Alese,” he wrote.

“The fee was a payment of £500k plus a bit extra when certain game milestones are reached. The deal also includes a 25% sell-on clause.”

Smart.

This is very good from West Ham United.

If Alese isn’t going to be playing consistently, why would he be kept around and left in the academy, when we can make an instant £500,000.

When you add in the big sell-on clause and the add-ons, it should take the deal above £1million and we won’t even see him playing against us with Sunderland unlikely to get instantly promoted again.

David Moyes is smart with how he does his business, and he will have sat down with Alese and spoke to him about what they both want and what his plans will have been for the coming seasons.

Nayef Aguerd arriving for big money on top of the experience that we already have makes it very unlikely, even nearly impossible for the young defender to make an impact.

We wish him all the best for the future, and he will be one we do keep an eye on.
