West Ham United agree £15m deal to sign Duje Caleta-Car on deadline day – report

West Ham United believe they have agreed a fee to sign Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car on deadline day, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper have reported in their print edition (31 January) that the Irons will pay £15million for the Croatian.

After talks looked to have gone stale on Sunday, Rob Newman looks to have finally made a breakthrough in talks with the French side.

Rob Newman is yet to complete a major piece of business since arriving in his new role at the London Stadium.

That looks set to change, although his focus appears to be on bringing a new centre-forward to the club for David Moyes.

Caleta-Car looks set to be the first name through the door today, despite all those twists and turns yesterday.

Jason Burt of the Telegraph even suggested at one point that a move was “very unlikely” as talks over a loan or permanent move stalled.

West Ham

Perfect.

This is one of the signings that were desperately needed today.

A central defender has been one of the priorities since Angelo Ogbonna picked up his injury and was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Since then, Kurt Zouma has also suffered a big problem, and that could re-appear at any moment knowing our luck.

That leaves Craig Dawson and Issa Diop, who, unfortunately, have not been great in recent weeks, shipping goals for fun at times.

Having another big figure in the shape of Croatian enforcer Caleta-Car will be perfect, as it not only improves our options but hands more competition to the likes of Dawson and Diop who should improve automatically.

This should not be the first arrival of the day, with the hope that an attacker can also be brought through the door before 11 pm.
