West Ham United ace Michail Antonio named in top ten strikers in Premier League

West Ham forward Michail Antonio has been named in the top ten out of all strikers in the Premier League for the 2021/22 season.

GIVEMESPORT used the WhoScored website to rank all of the strikers in the English topflight from first to last.

In order to be eligible for ranking – they must have played over 500 minutes in the league, with the majority of them as a striker.

The Jamaica international was ranked eighth in the table – just 0.01 worse off than Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and 0.02 off Everton’s Richarlison.

Antonio did manage to beat the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Roberto Firmino, Romelu Lukaku and Alexander Lacazette to name a few.

The top three strikers were Harry Kane [7.45] in first, Ivan Toney [7.28] in second, and Gabriel Jesus [7.20] in third.

Beast.

The fact that Antonio has finished in the top ten despite the massive workload he was subject to last season is ridiculous.

He was the Hammers’ only striker all season long and had to carry the burden of playing more or less all of their games across all competitions.

Make no mistake, his form did waver at times as David Moyes’ side pushed deeper into the cup competitions – in particular the Europa League which took its toll on the majority of the players, even the ones who were afforded rests.

The 32-year-old’s drive and determination are second to none. You would struggle to find a player his age playing as many games at the level which Antonio did last season whilst notching 24 goals across all competitions.

The Irons made the wrong decision not to bring in some backup for him in the January transfer window and that needs rectifying over the summer.

If Moyes could establish stronger squad depth – there is no reason why West Ham can win a trophy or qualify for Champions League next season having gone so close with limited resources.
