West Ham United ace Gianluca Scamacca says ‘yes’ to London Stadium exit amid ‘difficult’ transfer update

West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca has said “yes” to leaving the London Stadium this summer, according to Calciomercato.

The publication noted that the Italian is a priority for Roma chief Tiago Pinto, with the Serie A club keen to strengthen in attack.

Calciomercato added that the Hammers may now be forced to accept a “difficult” loan move for the 24-year-old.

“Gianluca Scamacca said ‘yes’ to Rome,” according to Calciomercato. “He is Tiago Pinto’s big target to reinforce the attack, the first choice in a list that also sees other candidates.

“But now West Ham must be convinced to accept the loan, a difficult mission at the moment. The Hammers want to monetise as much as possible from the sale considering that only 12 months ago they paid €36million (£31million) plus €6million in bonuses into Sassuolo’s coffers.”

Exit increasingly likely

Scamacca seemingly has his heart set on a return to Roma, having spent a handful of years in the Italian capital in his youth.

There was plenty of excitement around his big-money switch to West Ham last summer, but several injuries and just eight goals later, Hammers fans can be forgiven for being happy to see the back of the striker.

Not reaching double figures from his 27 matches in all competitions in claret and blue was very disappointing, even if his debut season in England was constantly disrupted by injury.

The forward perhaps could stay in East London and fight for his place in the team, but David Moyes has Michail Antonio and Danny Ings at his disposal, and could bring in another striker this summer.

The more likely scenario for Scamacca is that he returns to his homeland and tries to reignite his career, particularly given how he will have his eyes set on a place in the Italian national team in the upcoming major tournaments.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have rescued a 50:50 deal for a new hire, with an agreement close to completion.
