West Ham United ace Gianluca Scamacca emerges as ‘cheaper’ option in Inter Milan striker pursuit – Fabrizio Romano

West Ham United ace Gianluca Scamacca has emerged as a “cheaper” option in Inter Milan’s search for a new striker, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist reported via his personal Twitter account on Monday (31 July) that Scamacca is an option for the Serie A club as they fall short in Arsenal’s asking price for Folarin Balogun.

Scamacca joined the East London outfit from Sassuolo last summer in a £35.5million deal, with the striker arriving on a five-year deal.

“Inter have always considered Folarin Balogun as priority target,” Romano posted on Twitter. “Talks took place but still far from Arsenal asking price.

“Gianluca Scamacca, another option in the list as he could be cheaper name available on the market.”

Serie A return likely

David Moyes may be reluctant to let Scamacca leave at this stage of the transfer window, with the manager set to be left with only Danny Ings and Michail Antonio as his experienced strikers if the Italian goes, with youngster Divin Mubama also set to play a key role next season.

It perhaps isn’t enough for the Hammers as they look to have a much stronger Premier League season than last time, with the club also keen to deal with the step up to the Europa League following their Europa Conference League success.

They won’t have it easy next season, meaning they need all the help they can get, with a good start in both competitions crucial.

However, if Scamacca doesn’t want to be there then that is another matter entirely, with Moyes only needing players committed to the cause.

The striker seemingly has a handful of options this summer, with a return to Serie A perhaps the most likely outcome.

In other West Ham news, a pundit has questioned the club’s move for one Premier League player as a Moyes sack verdict is shared.
