West Ham transfer business leaves Tony Cottee baffled

Former West Ham striker Tony Cottee is far from pleased with the club’s lack of transfer activity in January and let everyone know about it on Twitter.

The Hammers were after a striker and a central defender during the transfer window but they ended the month without any new faces at the London Stadium.

Most notably, the Irons missed out on Hugo Etikite from Stade Reims [90Min] and Duje Caleta-Car from Marseille [Daily Mail] late on in January and they have been left with the same quad as they started with after a month of searching for fresh talent.

Cottee though was not impressed with the Hammers’ inability to bring in a new player in the entire transfer window and thinks the fans will feel the same disappointment.

“I don’t understand why we have not signed any player particularly the CF (centre forward) we’ve all known we’ve needed for years,” Cottee tweeted,

“Gutted for David Moyes, now was the time to back him and improve the squad to challenge in the EL (Europa League). I know I won’t be the only bitterly disappointed Hammer tonight.”

Missed a trick

David Moyes has already had his team almost picked for him this season with injuries and COVID-19 causing havoc in the Premier League.

Especially at striker and central defence, the Scot has had just one option to pick from on far too many occasions and no able substitutes on the bench to make an impact.

West Ham

Michail Antonio is begging for a rest at some point this season because he almost certainly will get injured if he doesn’t have his game time managed properly.

The defence is less of an issue now Kurt Zouma has returned to fitness but there is still only three fit centre-halves with Angelo Ogbonna out long term.

Craig Dawson and Issa Diop have played together for much of the last two months while Zouma too has been on the sidelines.

That is still not much in the way of cover and it may only take one horrid game to rule out two of your defensive options and leave you in big trouble.

Hopefully, the summer is a different story as if they wait this long again, they won’t be getting who they want and that could be a disaster for their hopes of success.

In other West Ham news, the players are scared of this Hammers superstar leaving the club in the summer.
