Reliable journalist claims West Ham will have £85m to spend this summer
Claret & Hugh associate editor Hugh Southon has revealed that West Ham and David Moyes will have £85m to spend this summer.
West Ham finishing in sixth has guaranteed them Europa League football and prize money of £35m upfront.
The Premier League’s prize distribution system gives teams an additional £2.3m per place and £2m for securing continental football.
Additional broadcasting revenue will also come in over the course of next season, but that will not be upfront like the aforementioned revenue streams.
South, in his piece for Claret & Hugh, has revealed that due to this additional income, David Moyes will have a kitty of £85m to spend on transfer recruitment this summer.
This sum is excluding money generated from player sales – a part of which could further be added to the budget – taking the total amount available way over the £100m mark.
Great news
We’ve been one of the worst run clubs in the Premier League for a long time and that fact becomes obvious whenever the transfer window arrives.
However, for the first time in years, the mood going into the summer is a positive one, with everyone behind the scenes appearing to sing from the same hymn sheet.
A striker has been the club’s priority since January and big money is expected to be spent on a player that guarantees goals. Tammy Abraham, thus far, appears to be the favourite to come to the London Stadium in the summer.
Given Fabian Balbuena’s departure, the club may decide to invest big on a centre-back while Declan Rice leaving could bring in additional funds for the club to strengthen their midfield.
Mark Noble, too, appears to be on his last legs and does not have enough fuel in the tank to play week in and week over a 38-game season.
We could even go in for a left-back to add to cover and maybe challenge Aaron Creswell for a first-team berth while a backup keeper also appears to be a priority for Moyes.
