West Ham, Tottenham, Man City could be only teams to qualify for away Premier League safe standing

West Ham are potentially one of three teams who could trial safe standing in the Premier League for away fans, according to Telegraph journalist Ben Rumsby.

As reported by BBC Sport, clubs in the top-flight, and the Championship, have been contacted to see if they would be interested in a safe standing pilot scheme.

Rumsby has reported that the move has been given the green light by the UK Government.

He’s added that West Ham could hold the pilot scheme for away supporters, saying: “Key to any trial being approved is safe standing for away fans.

“Am told that, currently, only Spurs, Man City and potentially West Ham would qualify for league matches. Cup ties might be different.”

Game-changer

Finally, the Premier League will look into safe standing at football matches after a change in approach by the UK Government.

Since 1994, all stadiums in the Premier League and the Championship have been required by law to be all-seaters with the Hillsborough disaster playing a major role in that change.

However, it was never considered how to make standing safe and we’ve seen across Europe, especially in Germany, how safe standing can be implemented into stadiums.

Let’s face it, it’s better to watch football on your feet, isn’t it?

Who doesn’t want to chant for the club you support while stood up with your fellow supporters? Especially on away days.

The London Stadium could play host to some electric atmosphere’s if it’s chosen to pilot safe standing for away fans but based on Rumsby’s tweet, it seems more likely that Tottenham and Man City will get the go-ahead.

In other West Ham, Ravel Morrison has reacted to this major transfer news from the club.
