West Ham to offer six-month contract in Graham Potter appointment twist

West Ham United are considering the possibility of hiring a replacement for Julen Lopetegui on a six-month deal, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper reported via their website on 5 December that Graham Potter may be more willing to take the reins at the London Stadium on a short-term basis, as opposed to foreign managers.

Appointing a manager on a six-month contract would allow the East London outfit to review their situation again at the end of the season.

Graham Potter could join West Ham on short-term deal as board plan shared

This comes after the Hammers held a board meeting to discuss Lopetegui’s future on Thursday (5 December).

Although there was pressure to sack the Spanish tactician immediately after the 3-1 loss to Leicester City on Tuesday [3 December], he is now expected to lead his side against Wolves at the London Stadium on Monday, 9 December.

His long-term future at West Ham remains a doubt, however, with the club hierarchy already considering a succession plan.

On Thursday [5 December] morning, talkSPORT’s Jim White revealed that the Irons have already sounded out Potter about replacing Lopetegui.

Wolves have also contacted the former Chelsea boss about replacing Gary O’Neil at the Molineux after their 4-0 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday [4 December].

However, Potter would prefer the project at the London Stadium over the Wanderers as things stand [talkSPORT].

The Englishman is said to be keen to return to management, having been without a club since being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023.
